It was probably the skeletal
tremor of Stipe’s refrain in
the outro that split the rock.
Like the eye catcher catches
the eye or the fisherman fishes,
there’s only one thing for it.
A distilling of sound right
down to the letter with chisel;
imploding under itself like
the fossilised echo of silence.
